PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the adjustment work of a feed distance of a material to be sewn and reduce the number of components. SOLUTION: This upper feed device for the sewing machine is provided with an upper feed member 41 coming into contact with the material to be sewn on a needle plate 12 from the upper part and feeding it in a predetermined direction, a vertical movement mechanism 50 providing a driving force of a vertically reciprocating operation to the upper feed member, a horizontal movement mechanism providing a driving force of a feed-directional reciprocating operation to the upper feed member, and a support frame 70 detachably attached to a sewing machine arm part and supporting the vertical movement mechanism and the horizontal movement mechanism. The horizontal movement mechanism is provided with connecting parts 62 and 64 getting the driving force from a lower feed spindle 13 applying the driving force of the feed-directional reciprocating operation to the lower feed member of the lower feed device provided in a sewing machine bed part 21 in a sewing machine frame side.
