The headlight has a housing with a light source including an array of a number of light emitting diodes (LEDs) (2) or infrared emitting diodes (IREDs). The light source includes two plate-shaped heat sinks (1a, 1b). The plate-shaped heat sinks are thermally and electrically coupled to the LEDs, such that the heat sinks act not only as electrical conductors but also as thermal cooling units. The heat sinks are made of gold plated copper.
