[MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] Forsterite excelling in carbon dioxide gas fixation potency produced by firing chrysotile asbestos and/or serpentinite containing chrysotile asbestos at 660° to 800°C and characterized by exhibiting a crystallization degree, as expressed by a peak area of X-ray analysis, of 7 to 80. There is provided a carbon dioxide gas fixation material characterized by containing the forsterite produced by firing chrysotile asbestos and/or serpentinite containing chrysotile asbestos at 660° to 800°C so as to exhibit a crystallization degree, as expressed by a peak area of X-ray analysis, of 7 to 80.</p>
