PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera capable of decreasing a photographing interval at a low cost in the case of carrying out consecutive shots. SOLUTION: Only one photodiode among a plurality of photodiodes 11a, 11b, 11c, 11d is sequentially exposed at every different point of time of the consecutive shots and the other photodiodes are shut off. Electric charges obtained by photoelectric conversion of the exposed photodiode are transferred to vertical read buffers 13a, 13b, 13c, 13d via read gates 12a, 12b, 12c, 12d. The electric charges transferred to the vertical read buffers 13a, 13b, 13c, 13d are stored until the exposure at all points of time is completed. After the exposure at all points of time is completed, the electric charges respectively transferred to the vertical read buffers 13a, 13b, 13c, 13d are vertically transferred to a horizontal read buffer 14, from which the electric charges are horizontally transferred.
