PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve optimum combustion while trying to ensure the torque in response to a driver's request. SOLUTION: This method of controlling the internal combustion engine includes: a step (a) of obtaining a desired torque (Torque_des) especially corresponding to a driver's request; a step (b) of obtaining a desired IMEP(IMEP_des) used in determining a parameter (Mair_sp, BGR_sp) from a desired torque (Torque_des) to control the injection of at least a kind of fluid into a combustion chamber; and a step (c) of obtaining a specified value (IMEP_sp) of LMEP from the desired IMEP (LMEP_des) and at least one size related to the fluid introduced into the combustion chamber to determine a fuel injection parameter (Mfuel_i, SOI_i, Pfuel) in the combustion chamber.
