The module has a module housing (12) with an outlet opening (24) for gas introduced into the airbag (18) that is closed by a plate-shaped shut-off body (26) before the module is activated. The shut-off body is held on the housing by an explosive bolt (28). When the explosive bolt is activated the shut-off body is completely released from the edge of the outlet opening and moves away from the module housing but remains attached to the housing by a capture arrangement.
