The device for the lifting and lowering of the roof of a commercial vehicle's body has a guide channel (2) in the corner stanchion region of the body in which a lifting component (4) can move up and down. An extension (7) is connected to the guide, and a damping element is provided between the lifting component and the extension. A mechanical drive in the form of a hand lever (8) operable in the vertical direction is installed in the lower region of the extension and connected directly or indirectly to the lifting component. The lifting component is fixed in various lift positions by locking of the mechanical drive.
