After the body and two sleeves of a sweater have each been cylindrically knitted up to the sides, the sleeve caps are knitted by partial knitting such that the front sleeve cap is narrower than the rear sleeve cap. The two sleeves and body are connected by gussets at the sides, in which case the gussets between the front body and the two front sleeves are made larger than those between the back body and the two rear sleeves. Subsequently, the front and back bodies are knitted while making the knitting width of the front body smaller than that of the back body and are joined to the two sleeves, and the upper ends of the front and back bodies are joined.
