METHOD FOR REMOVING ATM CELLS FROM AN ATM COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE

A number of algorithms have been used in prior art to deal with overloa d situations in ATM transmission systems. One of these algorithms is the known PPD (Partial Packet Discard) method. The dynamic burden on the ATM netwo rk when this method is used is still too great since not all of the ATM cells c an be discarded. The invention solves this problem by establishing rules which, wh en they are applied, ensure that this method is only used within strict limits.
