PURPOSE:To improve the plate efficiency by providing one or more partition plates in a distillation tray to make the fluid motion in the tray uniform. CONSTITUTION:When a partition plate 3 having the width of about 40% of the width of an inlet weir is provided in the vicinity of the central part of a tower in a flow having 500 Reynolds number, the resultant streamline is formed as shown in the figure. Since a residence space of liquid in the vicinity of a circular-arcuate tray wall is eliminated, the flow is made uniform. When the width of the partition plate is too wide, larger eddies are formed behind the plate, so an optimum value is determined.
