#CMT# #/CMT# The method involves generating a pulse width modulation signal, and generating an amplifier output signal based upon the pulse width modulation signal. Two comparison signals are generated based on respective comparisons between the pulse width modulation signal and the amplifier output signal. A fault detection signal is generated for indicating a fault based on a comparison between the comparison signals. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a circuit for detecting a fault in a class D power amplifier. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Used for detecting fault in a class D power amplifier that is utilized for a DVD receiver, AV receiver, hearing aid, cellphone, plasma display, aftermarket autosound, OEM autosound, personal computer, PDA, CD headphone, boom box and professional audio equipment. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The method directly detects the occurrence of a fault by comparing the pulse width modulation signal and the amplifier output signal. The method allows the amplifier to operate stably since the occurrence of the fault is directly detected to turn off an output switch. #CMT#DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS : #/CMT# The drawing shows a functional block diagram illustrating a class-D power amplifier having fault detection and circuit protection. 10 : Signal generator 30 : Amplifier output unit 50 : Circuit protection unit 70 : Filtering unit 90 : Speaker.
|
