PURPOSE:A sealing agent, prepared by adding an element of Group IIIb or Vb in the form of an oxide, etc. to boron trioxide, and capable of reducing the viscosity of a raw material for a crystal and preventing the evaporation of impurities effectively in growing the crystal. CONSTITUTION:A sealing agent prepared by adding one or more elements of Group IIIb or Vb in the form of a simple substance or oxide, e.g. Ga2O3 or P2O5, etc. to boron trioxide (B2O3) as a principal component. The resultant sealing agent is used in solidifying a raw material melt containing an element having a high vapor pressure, and growing a polycrystal or single crystal. The sealing agent is electrically inert and has a low viscosity. Therefore, there is no fear for the contamination of the crystal to be grown with impurities. |
