The method involves predefining a set point of output variable of a drive unit e.g. gasoline engine (1), by considering additional intervention in the variable. An actuating variable for regulating a throttling valve (5) is converted based on the point. A real value of the variable and/or another variable is determined based on valve position. Another real value is modeled based on another set point and without considering intervention. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a driving unit.
