PURPOSE:To reduce the time when stable rotation is attained in the stage of starting the operation of a crank press and to stabilize pressing quality by assuring the press contact force of a piston with a brack plate and increasing the pressure contact force of the piston with a driving plate. CONSTITUTION:The 1st spring 17A for pressing a piston 13 to a brake plate 12 side via plural cylinders 15A inserted movably in the axial direction with respect to a clutch sleeve 5 fitted into a crank shaft 1 and controllably of movement by a fluid pressure and the 2nd spring 17B for pressing a piston 12 to the plate 12 side at all times are provided in combination. The press is then so constituted that the piston 13 is brought into press contact with the plate 12 by the combined return pressure of both springs 17A, 17B during the stop of operation and that said piston is brought into press contact with the plate 12 by the independent return pressure of the 2nd spring 17B during the standby for operation. The time when the stable rotation is attained in the stage of starting the operation is thus reduced.
