PURPOSE:To facilitate attaching adjustment and the like and to obtain stable output, by setting the ratio between the length of a magneto resistance element and the magnetizing pitch of a magnetic recording medium in the direction perpendicular to the direction of the length below a specified value. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic drum 2 is attached to the shaft of a rotary body, i.e., a motor 1. A magnetic recording medium is provided on the surface of the cylinder of the drum 2. The signal magnetic field generated by the magnetized track on the medium is detected by a magneto resistance element 3 provided on a supporting table. The magneto resistance element 3 is constituted by forming a ferromagnetic thin film conductor on a glass substrate. The ratio L/m between the length L of the magneto resistance element 3 and the magnetizing pitch (m) of the magnetic recording medium in the direction perpendicular to the direction of the length is set below 45.
