The conditioner has a fastener with respective end parts fixed removably to a lower case part (50) of a lower unit (58) and a fixing part (70) of body shell of a vehicle. The end parts are separated from the respective parts (50, 70), when the unit (58) is separated from an upper unit (45). The unit (58) is displaced towards a lower side inside a fixing space (73), when the unit (58) is separated from the unit (45). The lower case part receives an evaporator (55) inclined with respect to horizontal direction. The fixing space (73) is contained in the lower unit (58) and placed under the case part (50) between the part (50) and the fixing part (70). An independent claim is also included for a method of separating a lower unit and an upper unit.
