The rigid support (1, 2) is placed on one bank of the watercourse. It supports a pole (3) with its lower end (3') located on the bed of the watercourse. A measurement system (5, 6) is included. This measures the distance between the end of the pole (3') and a fixed point (5') on the rigid support. This result is associated with either a measurement taken between the end of the pole and a second fixed point (6') on the rigid support, or with a measurement of the angle of pole inclination relative to the rigid support. The system stores the values obtained in memory, and is able to process them.
