NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [X represents residue of olean-12-ene-3beta,30-diol or olean-9(11),12-diene-3beta,30-diol] or addition salts thereof. EXAMPLE:Olean-12-ene-3beta,30-diol 3beta,30-di-O-hemiphthalate. USE:An anti-ulcer agent. PREPARATION:Olean-12-ene-3beta,30-diol expressed by formula II, olean-9(11),12- diene-3beta,30-diol expressed by formula III or olean-11,13(18)-diene-3beta,30-diol expressed by formula IV, which is a reduced modified compound of glycyrrhetinic acid, is reacted with phthalic anhydride in a basic organic solvent such as puridine or triethylamine to obtain the compound expressed by formula I. In some cases, this product is reacted with the corresponding amount of an alkali agent to obtain the addition salt expressed by formula I.
