PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unauthorized access to an information provision server without causing a burden on the subscriber side in a system for providing information to subscribers of a CATV system by using the information provision server connected to an open type wide area network. SOLUTION: When a connection request to WWW servers 52a to 52n exclusive for the subscribers of each CATV system is transmitted from STBs 32, 36 installed in a subscriber's house 30 of the CATV system, an authentication server 62 on the Internet 2 judges whether or not a device which transmits the connection request is the preregistered regular STB 32, 36 on the basis of identification information (STBID) given to each STB, and only when it is the connection request from the regular STB 32, 36, the STB 32, 36 is connected to a WWW server 52 (any of 52a to 52n) of the corresponding CATV system.
