PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a apparatus and a method for removing slag deposition for improving the slag retention ratio of possibly around 50% to substantially 0% compared to a conventional method. SOLUTION: In the apparatus and the method for removing slag deposition in order to obtain an excellent flame scarfing surface without any flame scarfing slag left on a steel slab, the flame scarfing slag which is discharged forward of a flame scarfing nozzle and deposited on the surface of the steel slab is removed by jetting pressurized water from first high-pressure water nozzles arranged on the front surface and the side surface of the flame scarfing nozzle. A second high-pressure water nozzle is provided which is opposite to the flame scarfing slag left on the flame scarfing surface passing through the flame scarfing nozzle, and which is arranged on a back side of the flame scarfing nozzle, extends horizontally parallel to the flame scarfing nozzle and keeps a predetermined distance from the steel slab. The second high-pressure water nozzle has a plurality of blow-out holes arranged straight with the angleθof delay in the steel slab moving direction, and jets pressurized water from the blow-out holes to completely remove slag from the surface of the steel slab.
