PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focus detecting device excellent in precision without any divergence of focus even in the case of using various photographic lenses under various light sources and under each luminance. SOLUTION: The automatic focus detecting device is equipped with a focus detection means to detect defocus amount based on luminous flux transmitted through the photographic lens, a 1st photometry means (#103) to perform the photometry of the specified wavelength region of the luminous flux transmitted through the photographic lens, a 2nd photometry means (#103) to perform the photometry of a wavelength region other than the specified wavelength region of the luminous flux transmitted through the photographic lens, a discrimination means (#104) to discriminate the kind of the illuminating light source by comparing output from the 1st photometry means with output from the 2nd photometry means, and a storage means to store information on the chromatic aberration of the predetermined wavelength of the photographic lens mounted in main body equipment, and arithmetic means (#105 to #107) to correct the result of defocus amount detection detected by the automatic focus detection means in accordance with the chromatic aberration amount stored in the storage means.
