PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CPP type magnetism detecting element having a large productΔRA of a change amountΔR of resistance and an element area A. SOLUTION: Any one or both of the free magnetic layer 25 and the second magnetic layer 23c of a fixed magnetic layer 23 are formed as a (Co<SB>0.67</SB>Fe<SB>0.33</SB>)<SB>100-a</SB>Z<SB>a</SB>alloy layer (Z is an element of one kind or two kinds or more among Al, Ga, Si, Ge, Sn, and Sb; the symbol (a) is expressed in at% and satisfies 0<a≤30). The (Co<SB>0.67</SB>Fe<SB>0.33</SB>)<SB>100-a</SB>Z<SB>a</SB>alloy has a property like half metal. It is hereby possible to increase change amounts of DC resistance values of the magnetic detecting element when magnetization directions of the free magnetic layer 25 and the second magnetic layer 23c of the fixed magnetic layer 23 are parallel and when antiparallel.
