PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-life extra-high-pressure discharge lamp and a lamp device using this suited for a projector or the like coping with the request of a user in spite of its sealed structure. SOLUTION: Since a ratio of a radial direction length B to an axial direction length A of a luminous tube part 18 in with mercury is sealed by 0.2mg/mm<SP>3</SP>or more is set within the range of 0.95 to 1.20, the convection of the mercury, rare gas, halogen or the like sealed inside the luminous tube 18 or heat conduction from electrodes is made appropriate, so that appropriateness of lamp temperature is attained. That is, glass constituting a sealing vessel 16 is free from degeneration due to heat, which prevents devitrification or deformation of the glass or deformation or the like of the electrodes, so that elongation of the life of the extra-high-pressure discharge lamp 10 and the lamp device using the same can be attained.
