PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zero-point error detection device for an angular velocity sensor, and to provide a method for the same capable of detecting the zero-point error of the angular velocity sensor with precision. SOLUTION: The zero-point error detecting device composed of the primary sampling part 6a for selectively extracting the combination of azimuth signals, outputted only the time satisfying the prescribed condition from the gyro azimuth obtained from each predetermined time from the output of the angular velocity sensor 1 and from output of gyro azimuth obtained from each predetermined time from the output of GPS receiver 3; the zero-point error sample operation part 6b and the statistical operation part 6d for operating the zero-point error of the angular velocity sensor 1 by using the extracted pair of azimuth signals. The azimuth information having high probability of containing errors is discarded, and only the azimuth information of high precision is selected for the calculation of the zero-point errors.
