PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding device to be used for a portable product, by which a sliding operation is easily performed by one hand, and to provide a portable telephone. SOLUTION: The sliding device is provided with: an elastic member for urging a cover in an opening/closing direction to an apparatus main body 2 between the apparatus body of the portable telephone and the cover having a display part; the cover to beslidable in the apparatus body 2; a lock part 29 for locking the cover to the apparatus body 2 at the closing or opening position; and a releasing means 38 for releasing the lock of the lock part 29 linked with the lock part 29.
