PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a marking forming device for marking a long member at a correct position, and a marking position detector for correctly detecting a marking position on the long member. SOLUTION: This marking position detector 10 is equipped with a middle camera 16 for performing position detection on a marking M formed on the long member P for showing its widthwise middle position, a one-end-side camera 18 and a the-other-end-side camera 20 for performing position detection on widthwise both ends of the long member P at the same widthwise detection position as that of the middle camera 16, and a controller 22 for determining whether or not the marking M is positioned at the widthwise middle of the long member P based on image data from these cameras.
