A gyroscopic paint mixer (30) having a ratcheting lead screw paint container clamp and lock with a pawl (108) releasably engaging an axial relief (98) in the lead screw (94). A clamping frame (70) is driven by a shaft (84) maintained in concentricity with a stationary ring gear (50) by an antifriction bearing (60) mounted between the shaft and ring gear. A support plate (76) has a peripheral lip (132) forming a first recess (133) sized to position either a generally square paint container (135) or a generally D-shaped paint container (148). The support plate has a second recess (138) to position a cylindrical paint container (88) concentric to a spin axis.
