PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system which can automatically decide that a user should take rest and inform the user of an expected time of arrival at a destination, without requiring the user to take time and effort. SOLUTION: When a main control section 6 (a rest decision section 12) decides that there is an intention of taking a rest at a rest area on a guide route, the main control section 6 (an expected time of arrival 11) calculates the expected time of arrival for the case of heading straight for the destination without taking rest, an expected time of arrival for the case of heading for the destination, after taking a 30-minute rest, and an expected time of arrival for the case of heading for the destination, after taking a 60-minute rest.
