PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a conventional image pickup device that an image size is sacrificed and a useless area occurs in outputting to an output device having a different aspect ratio, and that a buffer memory is required for acquiring a rotation image and the aspect ratio and an image angle must be changed. SOLUTION: The system is provided with a main scanning direction control unit 105 for a horizontal scanning unit 102 and a vertical scanning unit 103 for scanning an imaging unit 101 by an X-Y address system, an output unit 104 for outputting an image signal read by scanning the imaging unit, and a signal processing circuit 200 having functions of controlling the main scanning direction of the imaging unit and of segmenting image data from the output unit. Of the number of pixels in the horizontal direction and the number of pixels in the vertical direction in the output device, the larger number of pixels is used as the reference number of pixels, and the number of pixels in the imaging unit is the larger number of pixels in both the horizontal and vertical directions than the reference number of pixels.
