PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase recording capacity of a magnetic tape cartridge while securing compatibility with a conventional recording and reproduction device. SOLUTION: A magnetic tape cartridge includes a cartridge 1 configured by a top cartridge 2 and a bottom cartridge 3, a reel 5 disposed in a freely rotatable manner within the cartridge 1, and a magnetic tape 4 wound on the reel 5; wherein width w of the magnetic tape 4 is more than 12.65 mm, thickness h of the cartridge 1 is not more than 32 mm, and the width w of the magnetic tape 4 is from 60 to 90% of the thickness h of the cartridge 1.
