PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression file reproduction method and apparatus capable of shortening the required time from a reproduction instruction to reproduction. SOLUTION: The compression file reproduction apparatus performs the reproduction relating to a recording medium recorded with a plurality of compression files compressed in a plurality of different decoding systems by using a plurality of decoders, wherein a decoding system assignment section 40 for selectively assigning the decoding systems is included. Only the one decoder corresponding to the decoding system assigned by the decoding system assignment section 40 is selected and is set as the decoder to be operated. When the reproduction instruction is detected, whether the file information of the plurality of the compression files corresponds to the assigned one decoding system or not is determined, and thereby the reproduction list information in which only the file information corresponding to the assigned decoding system is extracted is generated and the compression file corresponding to the file information included in the reproduction list information generated by operating the selected decoder is reproduced.
