PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection apparatus of the oven lid smudge, capable of quantitatively grasping the smudge at any part of the oven lid. SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with a lighting apparatus 7 that applies light to the smudge-attached surface of the oven lid 1 from an angle to produce a shadow, an image pickup sensor 6 that photographs the smudged surface on which the shadow is produced by the lighting apparatus 7, and a controller 8 into which the image of the smudgy surface photographed by the image pickup sensor 6 is input. This controller 8 is equipped with a shadow area calculation section 8a that calculates the area of the shadow from the image of the smudged surface, a judgement section 8c that judges whether the area of the shadow calculated by the shadow area calculation section 8a exceeds a reference established beforehand, and an output section 8d that outputs, in case the above shadow area exceeds the reference, a signal showing that the timing of exchanging the oven lid has come.
