PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new divinyl fluorene compound suitable for an optical brightener, a sensitizer for a photosensitive material or a precursor for an electroluminescent material. SOLUTION: A new divinyl fluorene compound such as a compound represented by formula (II) (wherein, A<SP>1</SP>to A<SP>10</SP>, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>indicate each a substituent selected from nonmetal atoms; M<SP>1</SP>and M<SP>2</SP>indicate each independently H or OR; R<SP>3</SP>to R<SP>6</SP>and R indicate each independently an optional nonmetal group that is bonded with oxygen through H, an alkyl, an alkynyl or the like), a new step for synthesizing the divinyl fluorene compound and use of the new compound as a sensitizer, an optical brightener and an electroluminescent material.
