PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce damage of a resin coated rope in an elevator using the rope, and to reduce shock applied to a car at the time of an emergency stop, etc. SOLUTION: When using the resin coated rope made by coating a steel wire rope made by intertwisting the steel wires with resin, the elevator is constituted by using a sheave 4 formed with a nickel layer 16 containing fluororesin in a surface 15 in contact with at least the rope of the sheave 4 or the sheave 4 formed with irregular and fine irregularities 17 in the surface 15 in contact with at least the rope.
