The present invention relates to a device for controlling the displacement of a visual cursor on a visual display screen. This device comprises a housing 11 which can move on a flat surface 12, this housing containing detector elements 31 and 32, an electronic circuit 18, a support 15 provided with a cavity 20 containing a sphere 21 which can roll on the flat surface 12. Two rollers 23 and 24 transmit the movements of the sphere 21 to two coding wheels 29 and 30. The support 15 consists of a block moulded in synthetic material which carries all the mechanical elements, as well as the plate 17 carrying the electronic circuit 18.
