<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of restraining the power consumption of a fixing device to the utmost and realizing rapid rise, and a control method therefor. <P>SOLUTION: At starting by a main switch 414, the fixing device is set to a standby state (S503). After starting, control to start fixing only when printing is required from a user or external equipment is performed (S504 and S505).
