PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce fixed pattern noise in optical navigation. SOLUTION: The apparatus for controlling the position of the screen pointer includes a light source 118 configured to illuminate an imaging surface 124, thereby generating reflected images, a navigation sensor configured to generate digital images based on the reflected images, perform a movement computation based on the digital images, and generate movement data based on the movement computation that is indicative of relative motion between the imaging surface 124 and the apparatus 100, wherein the movement computation includes attenuating fixed pattern noise in the digital images.
