PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus equipped with an electrophotographic photoreceptor excellent in electric characteristics or the like. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with an electrophotographic photoreceptor having a photosensitive layer containing a charge generating substance and a charge transporting substance on a conductive supporting body. The image forming apparatus is characterized in that: a calculated valueαcal of the polarizabilityαby structural optimization calculation using a semiempirical molecular orbital calculation (which is simply called as semiempirical molecular orbital calculation thereinafter) using the PM3 parameter of the charge transporting substance satisfiesαcal>70 (Å^3); the calculated value Pcal of the dipole moment P by semiempirical molecular orbital calculation satisfies Pcal<1.8 (D); the photoreceptor contains a phthalocyanine pigment as the charge generating substance; and light at 750 to 850 nm is used as the exposure light.
