LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION CONTAINING TRIFLUORONAPHTHALENE DERIVATIVE, DISPLAY DEVICE, THE LIQUID CRYSTALLINE COMPOUND AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new liquid crystalline material, to provide a liquid crystal composition with the material as the key component, having wide nematic temperature range and negative dielectric constant anisotropy of large absolute value, and also to provide a highly reliable liquid crystal display device such as of VA type using the composition. SOLUTION: The new liquid crystalline material is a compound of general formula(1a)(wherein, Rais a 2-7C straight-chain alkyl). The liquid crystal composition contains the above compound. The liquid crystal display device using the composition is also provided. This liquid crystal composition has negative dielectric constant anisotropy of large absolute value and wide nematic temperature range and also favorable refractive index anisotropy, therefore being highly practicable for active matrix-driven liquid crystal displays of VA type.
