The device is inserted between a mask attached to the face of the patient and a tube (14) leading to the respirator. A sleeve (7) with a rounded edge (8, 11) is joined to the inner surface of a pipe segment (6) forming an inclined release opening (44) for the carbon dioxide in combination with a lavage element accommodated inside the front of the tube (14, 23, 24) and surrounding the outer surface at the rear area of the sleeve (7). Elastic elements (17, 19) formed by axial slots (15, 16) into the rear edge of the lavage element (66) engage with a groove at the inner surface of the tube front (14, 23, 24).
