The device has a clamping device (4) relatively adjustable to another clamping device (3). Detachable fixing units (5, 5`) are provided on both clamping devices for fixing a hair (2) which is to be tested. A micro step motor adjusts the device (4) relative to the device (3) by increasing tensile strength of the hair. An elongated measuring strip produces a correlated electrical signal for tensile strength of the hair during the tensile test. An electronic evaluator/indicator evaluates the signal and displays tensile strength of the clamped hair.
