<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary light switch for an automobile that ensures a feel that is not susceptible to mechanical influence. <P>SOLUTION: The rotary light switch is rotatable round the axis and also movable in the axial direction and has an actuator coupled in the axial direction with an axial direction position indicator. Further the light switch has a rotational position indicator and an electronic evaluation circuit fed with signals from the axial direction position indicator, wherein the electronic evaluation circuit obtains a separate switching condition using the fed signal according to the decision matrix stored permanently and converts the switching conditions into a switching control signal used in actuation of the light system of a vehicle. The rotational position indicator includes a potentiometer not generating a resistance substantially to the rotational movement, while the axial direction position indicator is accomplished in the form of optical barrier system, generating alike no mechanical reaction.
