PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray inspection device detecting occurrence of abnormality such as hand insertion more accurately than the conventional art. SOLUTION: A carry-in opening 11a and a carry-out opening 11b are provided with a plurality of sensors 17a, 17b, 18a and 18b for detecting an article. In a step before start of the inspection of the article, article detection is performed while the sample article is conveyed, and a control computer 20 generates first to third synthetic signals based on detection signals PH and PL in respective sensors 17a and 17b. As a normal synthetic signal working as the reference in detecting existence of the occurrence of the abnormality such as hand insertion, the third synthetic signal is stored in a CF 25. After the start of the inspection of the article, the article conveyed by a conveyer 12 is detected by each of the sensors 17a and 17b or the like, and the control computer 20 generates the first to third synthetic signals. The normal synthetic signal stored in the CF 25 is compared with the third synthetic signal generated from PH and PL detected after the start of the inspection.
