The invention relates to a method for creating a weld seam (1) in temperable steel, comprising at least the following steps: positioning of a laser beam (2) on a welding line (3); heating of sub-sections (4) of the steel by means of the laser beam (2), said laser beam (2) being guided along a welding path (5) that is longer than the welding line (3); cooling of the heated sub-sections (4) of the steel. Said welding method permits rupture-free welded joints to be created, without having to resort to the secondary heating of the temperable steel. A preferred application area for weld seams (1) of this type is the joining of components in the drive train of motor vehicles.
