<p>An ultrasonic imaging apparatus capable of following up the cross-section of an object even when the object moves by deviating from the imaging cross-section. The ultrasonic imaging apparatus displays the tomogram of a subject by transmitting an ultrasonic pulse from an ultrasonic probe provided with elements arranged two-dimensionally and receiving an ultrasonic pulse reflected from the subject. The ultrasonic imaging apparatus is provided with a vector Doppler operating section for detecting movement of the subject along the aperture direction of a receiving wave beam former, a displacement quantity detecting section for detecting movement of a remarked region of the subject based on the operation results from the vector Doppler operating section, and a scanning face setting section for determining the imaging part of ultrasonic wave by the displacement quantity detecting section. A sending wave beam former sends a wave to a wave sending point on the scanning face set at the scanning face setting section and the receiving wave beam former (5) is set to focus at a point on the scanning face set at the scanning face setting section.</p>
