<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress overheat and overcool of a direct injection valve tip part. <P>SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine is a so-called direct injection internal combustion engine. A direct injection valve 20 is provided with a fuel injection hole 26 injecting fuel in a combustion chamber 1b of the internal combustion engine. The tip part 20t of the direct injection valve 20 provided with a fuel injection hole 26 is covered by a cover member 30. The cover member 30 includes a fuel pass through hole 31 through which fuel spray Fm injected from the fuel injection hole 26 passes. Spray angle of the fuel spray Fm injected from the fuel injection hole 26 is changed by changing pressure of fuel supplied to the direct injection valve 20 according to operation condition of the internal combustion engine.
