<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus easily carrying out color smearing compensation even when a scar or an indention exist in a belt or when toner void to some extent exists in some of compensation patterns. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a compensation pattern forming means forming two or more sets of compensation patterns on an image carrier used for detection of color smearing between each visual image, a compensation pattern detection means detecting a compensation pattern formed on the image carrier, two or more discriminating means discriminating whether the detected amount of smearing by the compensation pattern detection means is valid, a calculating means calculating color smearing compensation data based on the detected result of the two or more sets of compensation patterns discriminated to be valid by the discriminating means and a compensation means compensating the color smearing based on the calculated color smearing compensation data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
