PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving force controller for a vehicle capable of easily obtaining larger driving force when passing a vehicle ahead by an own vehicle is estimated or detected when compared with a case where passing not a vehicle ahead by an own vehicle is estimated or detected to control gear shift of a transmission in technology for controlling gear shift of the transmission in accordance with distance between vehicles. SOLUTION: An estimating means for estimating whether a driver desires running for keeping positional relation with a preceding vehicle or running for passing the preceding vehicle is provided. When it is estimated that the driver desires running for passing the preceding vehicle, gear shift into a gear stage for low speed is easily and relatively performed when compared with a case where the driver desires running for keeping positional relation with the preceding vehicle or, when it is estimated that the driver desires running for passing the preceding vehicle, gear shift into a gear stage for lower speed is performed when compared with a case where the driver desires running for keeping positional relation with the preceding vehicle.
