PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a Japanese mail in such a format that any obstacle is not generated in decipherment even for the terminal equipment which is not sufficiently equipped with the display function of Japanese. SOLUTION: In a mail server 1, characters which are not registered in a portable terminal 2 are extracted from received mail data so as to perform processing for attaching the font data of the characters and processing for inserting a reading tag showing the reading of the characters into the mail data. In a portable terminal 2, the font data attached to the mail data are additionally registered in a font database 28 prior to processing for displaying the received mail data. Furthermore, in the display processing of the mail data, characters whose font data are not registered are replaced with symbols without any font and displayed, and the fonts of the respective characters configuring the reading tag are read, and those fonts are displayed following the symbols without any font.
