PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling an air-fuel ratio in a gas engine capable of accurately controlling to a specified air-fuel ratio without using an air-fuel ratio sensor in lean burn even when the change of fuel gas composition and the secular change of the parts of a device occur. SOLUTION: The amount of the deviation of the supplied amount of a fuel gas in an actual stoichiometric combustion is learned from a reference flow which is the supplied amount of fuel gas causing stoichiometric combustion (combustion at theoretical air-fuel ratio) in a reference state using a reference fuel gas (S4). A value obtained by adding the amount of the deviation to the reference flow is set to the reference flow of the supplied amount of fuel gas in operating the gas engine (S5). Based on the reference flow, a lean basic flow for a target air-fuel ratio corresponding to the target operating condition of the gas engine is calculated, and the supplied amount of the fuel gas is controlled so that the lean basic flow can be provided (S6, S7).
